Waterfalls

Nature’s Common Ground

In a time of tense disagreement over just about everything, waterfalls provide us a welcome respite. There seems to be a universal feeling of awe and calm shared by all standing in their presence. This feeling usually supersedes any inkling of suspicion or paranoia or lingering anger that may have otherwise spoiled the moment. Differences fade, people talk and occasionally friends are made, even if only for a short time. I’m not sure exactly why this is so, but I’m not the first to notice it. Maybe in beautifully combining polar opposites, wildly rushing water and ancient beds of rock, Mother Nature is setting an example for us.

I’ve tried to capture some of that majesty and calm in these images of waterfalls and white water in Connecticut and New York. I encourage you to visit them often. Take a friend – or maybe even an enemy.
